In addition to the core curriculum areas, Waitoki School offers a wide range of opportunities for our tamariki to learn, participate and get involved beyond the classroom. With the support of our wider school community, students can take part in sport, music, cultural activities, the arts, leadership, camps and Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC).

Throughout the year, our tamariki have opportunities to participate in sports including swimming, athletics, cross country, Rippa Rugby, Touch Rugby, Netball, Hockey and interschool competitions. Students can also get involved in Kapa Haka, choir, piano and guitar lessons, as well as a range of lunchtime activities led by teachers. These may include Jump Jam, art, handball, bowls, board games, ukulele, cheerleading, gymnastics, scooter and skateboarding activities and the library.

As a rural school, our annual Ag Day and Country Fair are an important part of school life. These events bring tamariki, whānau and the wider community together, while giving students opportunities to develop practical skills, take responsibility and contribute to much-loved school traditions.

Camps, school trips and EOTC provide opportunities for tamariki to learn outside the classroom, work together, build independence and experience new things. Our older students also have opportunities to take on leadership roles and responsibilities throughout the school.

There are many opportunities for our tamariki to perform, create and share their talents through school productions, music, art, drama and other events. With a small school community, students are encouraged to have a go, discover new interests, contribute to school life and make the most of the many opportunities available to them.

 

Interschool Events and Sports 

Our school is part of the Kaipara Kāhui ako, comprising of Waimauku, Woodhill, Parakai, Waioneke, Helensville and Kaukapakapa Schools. There are opportunities throughout the year for students to represent Waitoki School in competitive events such as swimming, triathlon, cross-country, athletics, speech competition, and chess. This enables our students to challenge themselves and compete against their peers. The top achievers in these events often go on to larger regional competitions. 

Our Intermediate Students participate in the Zespri AIMS Games. The AIMS Games is Australasia’s largest junior sporting event, held annually in Tauranga Moana. Celebrating diversity, the Games provides an opportunity for adolescents from all demographics and education contexts to compete in sporting competitions, to meet others from outside their normal peer group, and to learn and build on their social interaction skills.
