Waitoki School Cross Country

Monday, 27th July 2026 

(Save day - Tuesday, 28th July)

Next Monday is our whole school cross country and we will need 8 parent volunteers as marshals for the senior cross country.  Please let the school office know asap if you can help.

• First race starts at 11.00am seniors/Kapa Nui. 
• Juniors will run in the last block around the school grounds (as practiced).  

Iceblocks will be sold from the office window after the seniors’ races and then after the juniors’ races.  $1 or $2 selection. 

Students will need suitable running clothes, towel, old shoes, change of clothes and any first aid requirements.

Seniors:

Year 4 Girls/Year 4 Boys: Start under the goal posts and out through the schoolhouse gates, past petrol station and up to Swiss Bliss driveway and back to school through the schoolhouse gates, across the field and onto the turf. 1500m / 1.5km

Year 5 Girls/Year 5 Boys:Start under the goal posts and out through the schoolhouse gates, past petrol station and up to the bridge down to Springford Track, along to the bridge and then back to school through the schoolhouse gates, across the field and onto the turf. 2000m /2.0km

Year 6 Girls/Year 6 Boys:
Start under the goal posts and out through the schoolhouse gates, past petrol station and up to the bridge down to Springford Track, down to the Year 6 marker on the blue track and then back to school through the schoolhouse gates, across the field and onto the turf.  2500m/2.5km Year 7 Girls

Year 7 Boys:
Start under the goal posts and out through the schoolhouse gates, past petrol station and up to the bridge down to Springford Track, down to the Year 7 marker on the blue track and then back to school through the schoolhouse gates, across the field and onto the turf. 3000m /3.0km

Year 8 Girls/Year 8 Boys:
Start under the goal posts and out through the schoolhouse gates, past petrol station and up to the bridge down to Springford Track, down to the year 8 marker on the blue track and then back to school through the schoolhouse gates, across the field and onto the turf. 3500m / 3.5km

12pm - Juniors eating time then a play once the seniors races are completed.

 

Juniors: From 1:15pm approx (Year 1 - 3)

Ruma Ono  Yr 0: Course - Start on the field, run behind Ruma Whitu and Waru, around the back of the goal post, up the fence line, behind the goal post by Iwa, across the turf, around the garden, across the turf to the finish/start line.  1 lap (boys and girls)

Ruma Rima Yr 1: Course - Start on the field, run behind Ruma Whitu and Waru, around the back of the goal post, up the fence line, behind the goal post, across the turf, around the garden, across the turf to the finish/start line.  1 lap (boys and girls)

Ruma Wha Yr 2: Course - Start on the field, run behind Ruma Whitu and Waru, around the back of the goal post, up the fence line, behind the goal post Iwa, across the turf, around the garden, across the turf to the finish/start line, behind the goal posts by Iwa, down the fence line, around the goal post, behind Waru/Whitu and back to the start/finish line.  1.5 laps (boys and girls)

Ruma Whitu Yr 3:Course - Start on the field, run behind Ruma Whitu and Waru, around the back of the goal post, up the fence line, behind the goal post Iwa, across the turf, around the garden, across the turf to the finish/start line, repeat.  2 laps (boys and girls)

Reminder:  3 Way Conferences (Student/Parent/Teacher) are being held tomorrow Tuesday 21st July.

School will close at 12pm and individual meetings will be held between 12:30 pm until 7:00pm.

The purpose of these conferences is to share and discuss assessments, answer any questions from the report, and for your child to share their leaning and talk about their learning goals. Tamariki play an important role in these conferences. If you have not made your appointment yet, they can be made through the Skool Loop App under interviews.

• Chick orders by Friday 

If you would like to order chicks and/or rearing equipment and feed - please complete the order form attached and return before 2 July 2026 at the latest.  

Payment for the chicks and equipment can be made into the school account: 12-3139-0003007-00 or by Eftpos/cash in the school office.

Chicks will arrive in August, date to be confirmed.

• AG Day Animals 

As Ag Day approaches we are gauging how many people are planning to raise animals. Please fill in this form if you plan to raise a chick, calf, lamb or kid goat.

Lambs, calves and kid goats must be born between July 1st and September 15th 2026.

Kia ora whānau,

There is an exciting opportunity coming up for our Year 3-8 students to compete in the Junior Tough Guy and Gal Challenge! 

This is a chance for primary and intermediate aged kids to get involved in the Carpet Court Junior Tough Guy and Gal Challenge, an exciting and muddy adventure designed especially for children! This obstacle course race is perfect for young adventurers who love a challenge, enjoy being active, and aren’t afraid to get their hands (and everything else) dirty.

The Carpet Court Junior Tough Guy and Gal Challenge is the ultimate chance for kids to run, climb, crawl, and laugh their way through a day of fun-filled adventure. Let them embrace the mud and make memories to last a lifetime! All competitors will receive a special finishers medal for taking part!

Approximately 1.5km Course | School years 3–4
Approximately 3km Course | School years 5–8

Important information: 

Event Date: Monday 10 August 2026 

Venue: Kumeu showgrounds, Gate 2, Access Road, Kumeu. 

Registration will be in Shed 1. 

Entry Fee: The cost for this event is $30. 

9.30 – 10.30am: Registration and late entries
11.00am: Wave starts of approx 80 children to spread everyone out (Years 7-8, Years 5-6, Years 3-4)
12.45pm: Prize-giving
As this is an extra-curricular activity, it is a no pay, no go event. The entry fee of $30 includes the race entry, medal, parking and first aid support, as well as hot showers. Hot food and beverages will be available from the venue for purchase – please bring cash as most places will not have Eftpos facilities. 

Payment 

Payment must be received by Friday 10 July 2026, and can be made at the school office, or via the school bank account: Waitoki School Board 12-3139-0003007-00 

Permission Slips: 

Permission slips are under Skool Loop “Forms” Payment and permission must be received by Friday 10 July 2026.

 

Transport & Parent Assistance: 

We will be leaving school at 7.50am and returning to school by 2pm. The race starts at 11am. We will be getting to the event via parent transport. Aside from needing parents for transport purposes, I know from experience we are going to need loads of parents to help out on the day, particularly with our younger students after the race, as they will be getting VERY wet and muddy!! There are hot showers at the event. 

Please indicate if you can help using this permission slip. 

IMPORTANT NOTE! 

There are NO DOGS allowed at any of our events. 

Our event venues are on private land that have wildlife and/or domestic animals. Please leave them at home!

Finishers Medals
Every competitor that enters into any of the Junior Tough Guy and Gal events will receive a stunning finishers medal, plus a downloadable certificate is available.

Merit Prizes
No merit prizes will be awarded at these events.

Spot Prizes
Awesome spot prizes will be randomly drawn at prize-giving. You must be present at prize-giving to collect your spot prize.

Brightest School Award
We will be awarding a certificate and minor spot prize to the ‘Brightest School’ during prize-giving at the end of each event day. Dress up in your brightest or most creative dress ups for the Junior Tough Guy and Gal Challenge with your school group and you could win!

Age Limit
The Junior is for primary and intermediate schools school years 3 to 8.

Limited numbers
Each event has limited places available, so make sure you enter early to avoid disappointment as these events sell out! We will advise on the website when an event sells out.

What to wear
It is compulsory to wear covered in shoes during the event. You will get wet and muddy. A dry set of clothing, beanie and jacket is highly recommended following your event. Football or Rugby boots with moulded studs are acceptable, running spikes or boots with aluminium studs are not permitted.

Personalised Bib Numbers
You must have entered the event by 24th July if you would like your name on your race bib.

Shower and Parking
Hot showers, parking and first aid support are included in your entry fee.

Food and Drinks
Hot food and beverages will be available from the venue for purchase – please bring cash as most places will not have reliable eftpos facilities.

Photos
There are no official event photos for the Junior Tough Guy and Gal Challenge. Please feel free to take your own photos.
