School Swimming pool
26 Feb 2026

Unfortunately over the past few weeks our school pool area has been vandalised on a number of occasions. We have looked back at security camera footage so that we can pass it on to the Police to follow up on. However, when looking for the culprits in action, we have become concerned about the number of violations of our pool rules that have also been captured over the past three weeks.

Use of the pool is conditional upon acceptance of the pool rules which include;

  • The pool access gate is to be locked at all times under the Pool Fencing Act, except when entering and leaving. Keyholders are to ensure the gate is closed at all times, only those in their group may enter the pool area (the gate can be unlocked from both sides).  We are concerned by the number of pool users who are propping the gate open with either a rubbish bin or chair.
  • ALL children under 16 must be accompanied and supervised by the key holder. Ultimate responsibility is with the keyholder. On a number of occasions children under 16 have been left alone in the pool area without key holder supervision.
  • The pool may only be used between 6am and 8pm. Keyholders are accessing the pool after 8pm.
  • No jumping, running or bombing. This is frequently happening.
  • No animals of any kind. This includes dogs - a number of dogs have been taken into the pool area.
  • No foreign objects in the pool. This includes logs and rocks, both of which our caretaker has had to remove in recent weeks.
  • No skateboards, rollerblades or bikes. These are frequently being taken into the pool area and the pool wall is being damaged by people doing tricks on it. This is also dangerous.
  • No damage to school property. For example, the picnic bench has been broken where it has been used to jump into the water, the hose has been used on more than one occasion to fill the changing rooms with water and feces has been smeared on the changing room door. These things are happening outside of school hours.
    Please see attached for a copy of all the pool rules as users must comply with all pool rules or keyholders privileges may be withdrawn.

The pool is a valuable learning resource utilised by our students daily during Term 1 and 4 and its upkeep and maintenance costs the school several thousands of dollars each year. We sell pool keys for use outside of school hours to both contribute towards these costs and to provide a useful facility for our local community. Whilst we acknowledge that many of our school families use the pool responsibly and adhere to all the rules, we are concerned by the number of people who disregard them.

We hope to be able to continue to be able to offer pool keys in the future, but changes need to be made because the current situation is not sustainable. We are exploring other options for the 2026/2027 pool season.
