Extra Curricular Activities &Sports

In addition to the core curriculum areas, Waitoki School offers a further range of learning opportunities through activities run with the support of the wider school community. These include Kapa Haka, Netball, Hockey, Rippa Rugby, Touch Rugby, piano lessons, guitar lessons, and choir to name a few. There are also a range of activities held at lunchtime and run by teachers that students can opt into. These include activities such as Jump Jam, art, handball, bowls, board games, ukuleles, cheerleading, gymnastics, scooter and skateboarding and the library.

Each year, our Intermediate students participate in the William Pike Challenge. The Challenge is an exciting Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC), project based and service learning programme wrapped into one. Run by teachers, students get involved in Outdoor Activities, Community Service and Passion Projects. The aim is to develop students' strengths, get them out of their comfort zone, build focus and commitment, and build better relationships.

Interschool Events and Sports

Our school is part of the Kaipara Kāhui ako, comprising of Waimauku, Woodhill, Parakai, Waioneke, Helensville and Kaukapakapa Schools. There are opportunities throughout the year for students to represent Waitoki School in competitive events such as swimming, triathlon, cross-country, athletics, speech competition, and chess. This enables our students to challenge themselves and compete against their peers. The top achievers in these events often go on to larger regional competitions.

Our Intermediate Students participate in the Zespri AIMS Games. The AIMS Games is Australasia’s largest junior sporting event, held annually in Tauranga Moana. Celebrating diversity, the Games provides an opportunity for adolescents from all demographics and education contexts to compete in sporting competitions, to meet others from outside their normal peer group, and to learn and build on their social interaction skills.
