AG (Agricultural) Day

Agricultural Day (AG Day) is a very special event that Waitoki School holds every year in Term 3 and is an important part of the rural fabric and legacy of our school. Waitoki School started it’s AG Day in the early 1930s, and the purpose of the event was to encourage children to get a more complete rural education and to teach them about responsibility, ownership and care.

Held in October each year, AG Day is a great opportunity for children to select, rear, and train an animal (lamb, calf, or goat) over a period of around 3 months, which will then compete in a series of activities. Students can also rear a chicken and keep a diary to document its growth and progress.

We also offer a Lamb & Goat Daycare facility, were students can bring their animals in to school each day and be involved in feeding and caring for them during the school day.

If a student is unable to rear an animal, there are many other creative activities that they can get involved in including Junior Farmer, photography, a talent show, various artwork etc.

After Ag Day, we also host a Country Fair, which is a fun community event filled with food, games, and displays.

All placed students of school events go on to take part in the South Kaipara Group Day and regional A & P shows.

AG Day & Country Fair 2024

This year our AG Day & Country Fair will be held on Saturday 19th October from 8.30am onwards. The community is welcome to join us for a day of supporting our competitors, followed on by the Country Fair starting at 11am.
